of course.... you had to be asian. :) why are you guys so good at everything? is it in your genes? I hope my comment won't offend you.... i'm just flattering you. This is a very exquisite portrait... i love the contrast of lights and shadows, and your expression is just awesome... very nicely done. ;)

I love the concentration and depth of eyes. They're the color of doorways.

I'll give you a dollar if you leave the hand and arm like this.

No really. It mimics the way our eye sees peripheral vision.
it's brilliant.

If you render the hand and arm it will simply go from brilliant to "finished."

Degas would leave it.

i would like to do that... but first I need to prove to myself that I can expertly render that hand. When I KNOW I can take it to finish, that's when I'll leave it unfinished.... I don't feel like i've earned that yet.... that's how i feel in my gut

but in terms of taste, i agree with you. If somebody else was painting it, i'd like it better unfinished.

I'm going to try and preserve that effect to some extent by keeping the values on the arm subdued... we'll see

So focused. The palette adds a depth of drama and preview of what's to come.
