It's beautiful how the face seems to emerge from the page. Vine charcoal and bristol is an interesting choice (in that it's hard to control) but it looks like it creates some very visible and lovely marks and texture.

I really like the multi-directional background shading in this; I tend to just go diagonal, which is interesting in its own right, but what you've done here truly suits the portrait.

Also, bravo for drawing from life! I have trouble finding any willing victims -- er, subjects. ;)
